     The Los Angeles International

Association for Near-Death Studies
welcomes Victor Shamas, STEr, author, and professor, as our speaker Saturday, April 28th, from 1 to 4 PM.
Dr. Victor Shamas is a University of Arizona psychologist, co-founder of two Tucson-based non-profit groups (Global Chant and PlayHaven) and author of four books: Deep Creativity: Inside the Creative MysteryRepose: The Potent PauseThe Way of Play: Reclaiming Divine Fun and Celebration, and The Chanter’s Guide: Sacred Chanting as a Shamanic Practice. He changed fields from chemistry to psychology after a profoundly life-changing experience while he was traveling in the South Pacific. For the past 30 years, Dr. Shamas has devoted himself to understanding the experience of creative inspiration. His research deals with the experiential aspects of creativity, including imagination, intuition, inspiration, self-transcendence, and play. He has taught 25 different courses in the undergraduate psychology curriculum, including courses on death and loss, happiness, creativity, love, and spirituality.
In 1987, I had a momentary glimpse into the heart of creativity that led me on a 30-year quest to understand the nature of the creative experience. What I found is deeper realities hidden within even a single moment of creative inspiration. These realities are consistent with the qualities that characterize NDEs. Here I will discuss the commonalities between creative and near-death experiences, offering a theoretical framework for understanding the enormous transformative power inherent to both. I will show you why the accounts of eminent artists throughout history bear such a striking resemblance to those of individuals that have experienced NDEs.
We request a donation of $10 per person, but no one will be turned away.
